How Yoga can Help you Achieve Balance in your Emotional Life

 

Nearly every person alive has experienced an infinite amount of loss, as well as joy, in their lives.  But for many people, sadness, anger, anxiety, and numbness can become a dominant cycle resulting in a daily negative state of mind, or a chronic low-grade depression, or even a serious depressive illness.  The yoga practice is one way to begin to break these cycles of negative emotions and start to experience a life of joy.  Although it may seem frightening to let go of these familiar cycles of negative emotions, the yoga practice is a patient teacher.  Rather than trying to force us to never experience a negative emotion or to achieve a ‘pure’ emotional state, yoga teaches us to begin to bal ance our positive and negative emotions in order to create a beautiful mental mosaic, where we are more aware and alive in every moment of our lives.      

 

In this workshop students will learn:

  1. the reciprocal relationship between emotions and physiological cycles in our bodies
  2. how specific yoga postures can provide short-term relief from difficult emotions
  3. how a consistent yoga practice will initiate new cycles of positive emotions in our bodies, and break the cycles of negative emotions for long-term healing
  4. how to experience compassion for ourselves, even in our worst moments

 

The workshop will consist of education, discussion, demonstration, and practice.  Students will also receive written materials and a list of recommended reading as part of the workshop.

Who should attend: Open to all levels – beginners to teachers.  From anyone who has ever experienced a difficult emotion to anyone is experiencing an intractable depression.
