Director of Staff Development

The Director of Staff Development is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and fostering a flourishing learning environment for all studio instructors. Our internal Mentoring Program is intended for those yoga teachers who want to refine and develop the art of teaching and empower their role as a teacher in the classroom.

• Being innovative in our programs, policies and procedures.

• Having supportive relationships with teachers, students and staff.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and foster a positive learning relationship with studio faculty.

  • Oversee, interviewing, selecting, welcoming, orientation, and training of new instructors.

  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of feedback as it relates to the overall culture and changes of the studio.

  • Addressing, with sensitivity, topics such as religion, personal weaknesses, views on spirituality, interpersonal and relational issues.
  • Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality caused by the need to share client and mentoring-related information.
  • Role model positive behavior and communication skills.
  • Maintain regular and effectively communicate with the instructors.

  • Be available with an open door for at least one-two hours per week which is set aside specifically for teaching questions, concerns.
  • Coordinate attendance at one yoga based event/lecture/program every 6 months.
  • Meet once every three months individually with each instructor to go over feedback and reviews, and holding an instructor staff meeting once every 6 months.

  • Update HR files with relevant news and information.
  • Keep accurate records of mentor hours.

  • Encourage instructor interactions and organize social events and instructor dinners

 

Compensation:

  • Benefits:  Unlimited monthly yoga passes, 20% discount on workshops/events, boutique merchandise and retreats. Company paid retreat after one year.
  • Hours:  Monday - Friday from 4:00-7:00 PM. Performance based option to 20 or 40 hr position.
  • Payment:  $20-$35 / hour commensurate to relevant experience with option for performance-based increase after 3 months.

 

Pre-requisites:

  • Must be certified with the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level
  • Min. 5 years yoga teaching experience
  • Teach regular weekly classes at Studio Serenity for 6 months
  • Experience in HR, handling confidential material and/or managing staff preferred
